Week #6
All leading to our 40th anniversary celebration in October, each week RCCM will feature a Historical Picture of the Week. This week's photo is from January, 1980. It shows an elementary class in session at RCCM's K-12 school, Rochester Christian Academy (RCA).

RCA was one of Pastor Stephen Galvano's most ambitious visions in the 1970s. The God-given vision was to give students a strong education with a foundation in the Word of God. It all started right on the Lyell Rd. campus in 1975. By 1981, the school had grown to 130 students and had outgrown the Lyell Rd. building and Portables that were stationed adjacent to the building. In the late 1970s, plans were underway to construct a new, state of the art school facility on newly acquired land just to the south of the church building. By 1981, the plans were completed and RCCM had just won a hotly contested court battle that would allow construction of the school. Just after the groundbreaking on the 1.8 million dollar building, the Thomas Edison building, located just 2 miles from the church became available. The Thomas Edison building was even bigger than the proposed building and better suited for future growth. And that growth occurred throughout the 1980s. To this day, RCCM still receives testimonies in the form of notes, emails and cards on how RCA helped form young dreamers into world changers.

The greatest days for RCA are in its future! After being closed for nearly 20 years, we are proud to announce that RCA will re-open its doors in the fall of 2011. Click here for the exciting announcement by Pastor Stephen Galvano.
